Texas A&M University Qatar wins the title of then 2nd Asian Arabic Debating Championship

The Asian Arabic Debating Championship – organized by QatarDebate,  a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, in collaboration with OmanDebate and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, concluded on February 2, 2023. 

Under the patronage of His Highness Fahr bin Fatik Al Said, and His Highness Sayyid Firas bin Fatik Al Said, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Debate Center, and the generous participation of Their Excellencies and officials  in the Sultanate of Oman, the active partner in the world of debates with QatarDebate, which is headed by Dr. Hayat Abdullah Marafi – Executive Director of the Center and her presence at the head of the Center’s delegation in this tournament.

The ceremony, which was presented by QatarDebate Ambassador, Mohammed Al-Lakhn Al-Marri, witnessed awarding the winners of the championship for the open category, the Texas A&M  University team from the State of Qatar – after defeating the Princess Sumaya University for Technology team – from Jordan who won second place.

The debate motion for the final round was: “This House believes that it is time for Asian countries to turn to China instead of the United States of America.”

The final debate was chaired by QatarDebate Ambassador from Oman, Mr. Salem bin Mutair Al-Shamakhi,  with the participation of 9 international judges.

Arabic for Non-Native Speakers

The University of Islamic Sciences Malaysia team was crowned the winner of the first place – the category of Arabic for non-native speakers – and the second place was the team of the University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim from Indonesia.
