QatarDebate represents Qatar for the first time at the ECOSOC Youth Forum in New York

QatarDebate, established by Qatar Foundation for Education, Research and Community Development, represents Qatar for the first time at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum, which concludes on April 19, 2024 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Forum is a platform for economic dialogue between youth, decision-makers and experts from various political and non-political backgrounds and is an annual initiative of the Council’s presidency. This event serves as a unique space for a group of young people selected to participate in the forum’s themed panels, which focused on various issues represented by plenary sessions and interactive thematic and regional discussions of innovative views and ideas in preparation for the Future Summit to be held under the auspices of the General Assembly in September 2024.

Her Excellency Sheikha Alya bint Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, participated in the panel discussion organized by QatarDebate on April 16 on the sidelines of the forum entitled “Transition to Renewables for a Sustainable Future”.

In her opening speech during the panel discussion, Her Excellency Sheikha Alya praised QatarDebate’s role in enriching dialogue and empowering youth, noting the importance of the session’s topic and mentioning a number of Qatar’s efforts to address the challenges of climate change. Her Excellency said: “The youth chose the concept of peace to be the main driver of this event, as we live in a small international village with open horizons.”

In turn, the representative of QatarDebate, Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Subaie, Director of Programs Department, welcomed Their Excellencies, distinguished guests and youth delegates by joining the discussion session organized by QatarDebate on the sidelines of the forum, and said: “On behalf of my team, I would like to thank you for attending this panel discussion to reactivate the concepts of discussion and open the way for creative ideas that will be implemented on the ground.”

Al-Subaie praised the importance of consolidating knowledge awareness among young people, which motivates them to innovate and create, and we will only be able to reach a common understanding and find accurate and thoughtful solutions by enriching open dialogue and empowering minds, stressing his keenness to listen to the discussion and learn from young debaters.
