Doha, Qatar – QatarDebate Center: Under the patronage of Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Foundation (QF), the 4th International Schools Arabic Debating Championship (ISADC) concluded on Wednesday, April 11.
The 4th ISADC, which took place from April 7-11, 2018, featured 250 debaters representing 50 Arabic-speaking and non-Arabic speaking countries.
The closing ceremony was attended by Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Mrs. Machaille Al-Naimi, President of Community Development, QF, and Dr. Hayat Abdullah Maarafi, Executive Director of QatarDebate, as well as a number of Arab and foreign ambassadors, dignitaries and representatives of the official sponsors, and guests from around the world.
The final round of the event was held during the closing ceremony, in the presence of the participating teams, guests, and local and international media.
The Turkish – the proposition – team was awarded the championship title, while Lebanese team took second place. The two teams debated the motion, ‘This House believes that the intervention of great powers and their political stands is a major cause of the deterioration of third world countries’. Third place went to the Omani team after competing against the Singaporean team.
The final round was presided over by Judge Dr. Mutasim Al Mamari from Oman, and featured Mr. Nizar Mukhtar from QatarDebate, Mr. Slaman Ali from QatarDebate, Mrs. Nadia Darwish from QatarDebate, Mrs. Khalfa Aisha from Algeria, Mrs. Wadha Al Hajri from Qatar, Mr. Fahad Alsubaie from Kuwait, Mr. Miqdad Ahmad from Sudan, and Mr. Ali Al Zouqri from Qatar.
In his welcome speech, Mohammed Al Lakhn Al Marri, the master of ceremonies, said, “This championship provokes thought, unites different points of view, and presents the topics in a concise manner. We meet every year to demonstrate our determination in disseminating the art of debating in a time of difference.
“QatarDebate was established some years ago. We continue to work towards the same ambitions and goals, but we are keen on developing every year in order to deliver a remarkable event which aims to introduce the Arabic language in the best possible image.”
During the ceremony, Dr. Maarafi also expressed her thanks and appreciation to all those who supported the event and contributed to the success of the championship, particularly QF represented by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani for her patronage of the championship and honoring the teams with her presence, and Mrs. Machaille Al-Naimi for her trust in QatarDebate.
Gratitude was also extended to the sponsors of the championship, including the official sponsor Qatar Primary Materials Company, represented by Dr. Latifa Darwish; the international media partner Al Jazeera Media Network, represented by Mr. Ali Al Maslamani; and the official carrier Qatar Airways, represented by Mr. Saud Ahmed Al Emadi.
In addition, appreciation was extended to those in charge of the tournament, including volunteers and local and international judges as well as the entities they work for; the diplomats and ambassadors who attended to support their countries’ teams; the strategic educational partners for their participation in the cultural exhibition held on the sidelines of the championship; the Qatari Youth Hostel; and members of the Elite Academy.

The best speakers of the 4th edition of ISADC include: Ryan Majid Al-Rifai from Kuwait in first place; Abdullah Fayez Ghazi Al Enezi from Kuwait in second place; Asmaa Koutan from Turkey in third place; Sara al Jadida from Tunisia in fourth place; Ibrahim Abdul Qader Mohammed from Australia in fifth place; Ramisa Aydin from Turkey in sixth place; Issa Ahmed Abdul Karim Mohammed from Kuwait in seventh place; Zainab Kokja from Turkey in eight place; Mariam Bint Abdel Haq Ben Arabeya from Tunisia in ninth place;, and finally Salman Anas Al Hindi from Qatar in tenth place.
The best speaker from non-Arabic speaking countries category is Aqidat al Eza from Indonesia
The top five speakers from non-Arabic speaking countries include: Aqidat al Eza from Indonesia in first place; Aventa Zakia Wafda from Indonesia in second place; Noria Lailat Al Sakina from Indonesia in third place; Moutalib Madina from Kazakhstan in fourth place; and Mohammed Fadil Ahmed Al Ansari from India in fifth place.
Indonesia team announced best Arabic speaking team from a non-Arabic speaking country
The Indonesian team was announced as the best Arabic speaking team from non-Arabic speakers, and the members were honored at the closing ceremony.
During the ceremony, the master of ceremonies announced the winner of the Pioneer Award for which approximately 80 projects were submitted from five continents, most of them were submitted from the State of Qatar. After sorting the projects, ten groups were selected.
Finally, the three new ambassadors of QatarDebate – Bader Al Shatti from Kuwait, Miqdad Ahmad from Sudan, and Mohammed Al Lakhn Al Marri from Qatar– were honored.
