International trainers getting ready for the 5th ISDC

Doha – QatarDebate

TOT Academy organized and hosted by QatarDebate Center (QD) a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), at student center, Education City, took place on November 24 – 28; concludes today.  The event brings together coaches of different nationalities from schools around the world to equip them with the necessary skills to select and train students upon return to their respective institutions to participate in the 5th International Schools Arabic debating championships which takes place in March 2020, Doha – Qatar, and will be held entirely in Arabic language.

Featuring intensive workshop extended for five consecutive days, and 10 international trainers from 9 Arabic-speaking and non-Arabic speaking countries. The Academy features participants from Turkey, Kosovo, Czech Republic, Libya, Lebanon, Kuwait, Oman and Britain.

A variety of QD’s debate instructors presented and led discussions and workshops on all aspects of art of debate, with emphasis on debate skills, critical thinking, refuting and argument but also extending to topics such as adjudication, motion analysis, and case building. While the participants reflected the focus on how to be tolerant to people’s opinions which contributed to the diversity of discussions and information exchanged.

The participants emphasized the role of QatarDebate Center through the academy to establish standards for debate and equip cadres of qualified trainers to spread the art of debate in Arabic in their countries.

The participants in the “TOT Academy” expressed their happiness in participating in the academy, which acquainted them with a great deal of information and extensive experience, underscoring its excellence, demanding its continuation in the long term.
