Doha – QatarDebate
The second League of Universities Debates in English witnessed a strong competition between the 16 participating teams belonging to 7 universities, namely “Qatar University – Carnegie Mellon – College of the North Atlantic – Hamad bin Khalifa – North Western – Weill Cornell Medicine – Georgetown”. The College of the North Atlantic hosted the second round of competitions organized by QatarDebate – a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development- with the participation of 16 arbitrators.
The three issues that the participating teams debated revolved around: “This council considers that the sports team federations should set an upper limit for the club’s annual spending.”
“This House supports China’s rise as a great power,” “This House regrets the idea that democracy is the ideal form of government.”
The League 2 concluded by announcing the winning teams as the highest cumulative points. Weill Cornell College came in order of centers, followed by Qatar University and then Georgetown University.
One of the best speakers for the league was Shahryarana Shakir from Weill Cornell College, and Mudassir Reda from Georgetown, Abdul Rahman Al-Sayed and Mazen Abdel-Fattah from Qatar University came in second place.
