42 teams begin competing for the 2nd Asian Championship title

The second edition of the Asian Debating Championship kicked off today, January 29th, 2023. Organized by QatarDebate a member of Qatar Foundation – a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development – in Muscat, Oman. under the patronage of his excellency Basel Bin Ahmad Alrawas – under-secretary of the ministry of culture, sports and youth, in addition to president of the board of directors of Oman Debate his excellency Faris bin Fatek Al- Saeed. Among the attendees were distinctive partners and representatives of different youth organisations, with QD representatives led by Mr Abdulrahman Alsubaei. The ceremony commenced with a welcome speech by A QatarDebate ambassador Ms Hawa Aljaradi in which she expressed her delight in hosting this championship in her home country Oman. She also highlighted QD’s efforts in fostering and harboring dialogue and debate in Arabic around the world, with efforts to build bridges of discussion on academic grounds.

Mr Hilal bin Saif Alsayabi – director of Youth in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth also delivered a welcome speech that featured him welcoming the 165 debater. This championship is a collaborative efforts between QatarDebate and the logistical partner Oman Debate. Under direct support and supervision from the ministry.

Mr Abdulrahman Alsubaie Outreach programs manager at QatarDebate announced that this edition of the championship marks a special edition as it is co-hosted by a strategic partner in Oman.

After the immense success by the first edition of the championship held in Kuala Lumpur, this edition includes the participation 320 participants representing 18 countries including: Qatar, Oman, Australia, Azerbaijan, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia , Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Yemen.

5 teams from Qatar representing Qatar University, Lusail University, Texas A&M Qatar, Georgetown Qatar and CMUQ.

Judges include 75 judges mostly locals from Oman graduates of the training academy QD has conducted many training sessions in order to qualify them to participate in this championship, in addition to several members of QD ambassadors and Elite academy members.
