Doha, Tuesday, March 18

As part of its ongoing commitment to empowering youth and fostering a culture of dialogue, QatarDebate Center, Founded by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, proudly congratulates the launch of “Syria Debates,” a national youth initiative dedicated to cultivating debate culture within Syrian society and equipping young people with critical thinking and effective communication skills.

This announcement follows the successful conclusion of an intensive online training program, “Introduction to the Art of Debate,” held from March 11 to 14. The program, utilizing QatarDebate Center’s approved training curriculum, engaged over 350 young men and women from across Syria. Participants gained fundamental knowledge in debate principles, argument construction and refutation, and speaker roles.

QatarDebate Center emphasizes that this initiative is part of a broader vision to promote dialogue in Syria through a series of upcoming programs. These include arbitration academies, national championships, and specialized training sessions, all designed to refine youth skills and enhance competitive debate proficiency.

“Syria Debates” has also announced the “Syrian Schools Debating Championship in Arabic,” scheduled for the second week of April, in partnership with QatarDebate Center. This championship aligns with the model of national championships held in numerous countries preparing their teams for the Seventh International Schools Debating Championship in Arabic. This prestigious international event, featuring teams from around the globe, is scheduled for late June.

QatarDebate continues to lead globally in disseminating debate culture, reaffirming its dedication to supporting youth worldwide through specialized training programs and national and international championships. These initiatives provide a platform for young people to express their ideas freely and responsibly, fostering a culture of constructive dialogue.
