During the 4th ISADC QatarDebate and A’Sharqiyah University of Oman signed MoU

QatarDebate Centre – a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development- and A’Sharqiyah University (ASU) in Oman signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday, April 9, to cooperate in all fields of training and scientific and educational activities.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Hayat Abdullah Maarafi Executive Director of QatarDebate Center and Mr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al Barashdi, Director of Student Affairs Department at the University.

Speaking on the sidelines of the MOU signing ceremony, Maarafi said, “We express our thanks to A’Sharqiyah University of Oman for their continuous support to the QatarDebate Center.”

She added, “We hope such bilateral cooperation between the two parties results in holding international championship at the universities level in Oman.”

“On behalf of A’Sharqiyah University, we are grateful to QatarDebate Center for its continuous support to the art of debate,” said Barashdi.

Barashdi pointed out that the ASU has hosted the first debate championship at the level of the Omani universities, a matter that has greatly contributed to dissemination of the art of debate.

On the other hand, sixteen teams were qualified on Monday in the 4th International Schools Arabic Debating Championship.

Ali Al Zouqri, Qatar debate team coach, said that four male students and four female students were qualified for the championship (ISADC).

Zouqri pointed out that training of the debaters focused on the debating skills more than the motions.

The Pakistani and Indonesian teams emphasized the important role played by the debates in supporting teaching Arabic language in non-Arabic speaking countries, as well as its importance in holding constructive dialogue and refuting allegations, a matter that develop the concept of accepting others and establish effective communication with other cultures.

Moreover, Al-Jazeera network, the media partner for the 4th ISADC, organized two workshops for students participating in the championship, where the first workshop focused on monitoring and investigation of false news, while the second focused on media documentation.
