QatarDebate and Fatih Sultan Mehmet University Sign a MOU

Doha – QatarDebate Center

QatarDebate, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, and Fatih Sultan Mehmet University – Istanbul, announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding, based on their shared desire to establish a debate center in Turkey at the headquarters of Fatih Sultan Mehmet University. The university was opened by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in 2010 in the presence of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser.

The memorandum was signed by the Ambassador of Turkey to Qatar, Dr. Mustafa Kokso on behalf of the President of the University, Prof. Fatih Andy, and Dr. Hayat Abdullah Maarafi – Executive Director of QatarDebate Center, on Tuesday morning, December 7, 2021 at the center’s headquarters in Education City.

On this occasion, Dr. Hayat said: “Within the framework of the international partnerships that QatarDebate is working on, we announce the signing of a memorandum of understanding to cooperate with Fatih Sultan Mehmet University to establish the Turkish Debate Center to serve the Arabic debate community in Turkey.
This partnership is a new step for QatarDebate in order to spread the Arabic language and enhance its position around the world for Turkish and Arab students wishing to practice the Arabic language at all levels of study.

The establishment of the Debate Center in Turkey will provide great support for Arabic debate activities in Turkey and the region, as QatarDebate, in cooperation with Fatih Sultan Mehmet University, will organize the second edition of the European Universities Debating Championship in Arabic during 2022, with the aim of promoting and spreading the Arabic language in European societies.
