Tasniem Hussain

Tasniem comes to us from the International Islamic University of Malaysia where she received her BS in English Language & Literature and is finishing her MA in English Literary Studies. A passionate debater, she often jokes that she majored in Debate and minored in Literature. She began her debating career in 2004 as a debater, and was the Malaysian National Champion, twice Asians (BP) finalist & Top Speaker and Worlds Universities Debating Champion (ESL). As an adjudicator, Tasniem has judged consistently at the Worlds Universities Debating Championships, was the Grand Final judge of Asians & Austral-Asians Debating Championship, as well as Deputy Chief Adjudicator at Austral-Asian Debating Championship, Organization of Islamic Cooperation Debate Championship, Pan African Universities Debating Championship and has adjudicated at debate tournaments in over 10 countries worldwide. Additionally, she has extensive coaching experience and is wonderful at passing on her incredible skills to other debaters.
James Alex de Jager

Alex has recently joined us with strong experience in debate coaching as well as teaching and learning in higher education. As a trainer, Alex has a rich background in various disciplines.
Alex is a Politics, Philosophy and Economics graduate from the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa. His main academic focus is Political Economy and Development Economics. His time at UCT included lecturing Economics and Politics, as well as doing research for the World Bank and DFiD.
Alex has been involved in debating since high school. As a speaker he has won the Southern African invitational and broken at both the Oxford and Cambridge Inter-Varsity tournaments. He has broken as a judge at several international tournaments including WSDC.
Alex currently serves as a member of the World Schools Debate Championship Executive Committee, and as a coach he has taken teams to over a dozen international tournaments. Amongst others he was the coach for the South African team that broke 3rd, with the number one ranking speaker, at WSDC 2009 and the coach for the Turkish national team in 2013 that had both an EFL and ESL Top10 ranking speaker.
Nazar Mukhtar

Nazar was brought up in an educated family with an Azhar graduate grandfather and two parents who were teachers.
Arabic language, culture and history were essential elements in Nazar’s life as he was growing up. In perusing his degree in Bio- medical engineering, Nazar started debating for his university team at Malaysia University as an extra curricula activity. Nazar debated and coached Multimedia University Debating society before joining Qatar Debate Team earlier in 2010.
Mohamad Salman Ali
Arabic Debate Instructor: mmali@qf.org.qa
Salman joined QatarDebate in March 2011. He was born in Malaysia, and graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in the Kuliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge with a major in the Studies of Qur’an and Sunnah. He speaks modern standard Arabic Language fluently through his Arabic debating activities.
He was the president of Arabic Debate Club in IIUM and has organized series of debate tournaments in Arabic besides coaching and judging. The understanding of Islamic knowledge source has enabled Salman to combine the elements of modern debate style and a classical Arabic Islamic thinkers approach.
