QatarDebate Center announces the 5th International Schools Debating Championship

With the participation of various countries from around the world, QatarDebate Center – a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development – announces the 5th International Schools Debating Championship 2021, under the slogan “Our Earth, Our Refuge” – in its hybrid interactive version – in-person and virtual.

For the first time in the center’s history, an English category will be introduced to the International Schools Debating Championship, in which 50 teams will participate, simultaneously with the main Arabic category of the championship, during the period from April 3-7.

This championship is an experience not different from the previous local championships held remotely and for all stages, but it is distinguished as a global event that brings students from all over the world through the digital space to debate in Arabic and English the most important societal and global issues.

It also provides an opportunity for debater around the world to get to know each other and exchange experiences, building communication bridges that are based on dialogue and logic, in addition to focusing on the status of the Arabic language as an enriching cultural mediator.

The national team – Team Qatar – has an integrated and distinctive participation with two Arabic and English teams under the supervision of the Center’s trainers: Mr. Mohammad Khader and Mr. Mubarrat Wassey.

On her part, Dr. Hayat Abdullah Maarafi – Executive Director of the QatarDebate Center – said: “This championship, in its version, is a distinctive pioneering event in light of the current situation imposed by the Corona pandemic on the world. It also consolidates the belief of educational institutions and students in transforming the problem into an opportunity for transcending challenges with promising youth skills”.

Registration to participate in the championship is in two phases; the first is from February 14 – 25, 2021, and the second is from February 28 to March 4, 2021, including the registration of the participating teams.

With the announcement of the championship, we are pleased to present a guide for registration and participation, which includes all important information to those wishing to join this international event.

The center will provide training workshops for adjudicators, team trainers and participants, in cooperation with the center’s ambassadors and elite members.
