QatarDebate preparing for the first ever Arabic debate championship in the USA

US Debate Capacity Building Program, organized by QatarDebate Center (QD) a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), and hosted by University of Chicago, which took place from 28-30 June in USA concluded.  

Abdulrahman Al Subaie, Head of Outreach Program, QD said: “The workshop brings together coaches & team leaders from more than 15 universities across the US, to prepare for the upcoming first-ever Arabic Debating Championship for universities which will be organized by QatarDebate and will be hosted by Harvard University next October in the USA.”

 

 

He pointed out that QD held on the sideline of the workshop a mini forum for academics and participants on the presented proposals to strengthen relations with  QatarDebate and the foundations of cooperation to develop teams and enable students to learn how to debate in Arabic for Arabic & non-Arabic speakers" Abdulrahman Al Subaie said.

 

Featuring intensive workshop extended for three consecutive days, the workshop focused on adjudication skills and training according to QD standards and the trainees' test to determine their level and developing them in preparation for the championship.

The workshop featured 20 participants from Lindblom academy in Chicago, Western Kentucky University, University of Utah, Northwestern University, Georgetown University, New York University, University of Chicago, and DePaul University-community College in Chicago, Harvard University, Princeton University, Brigham Young University, and College of Charleston.

 

 

The participants emphasized the role of QatarDebate Center through the workshop to establish standards for debate and equip qualified trainers to spread the art of debate in Arabic across the USA.

“It was a great experience, and I look forward to passing the knowledge I gained here to the students” Dr. Abdallah Shuaibi from DePaul University said.

 “One of the objectives of QatarDebate’s outreach programs is to spread the debate culture in Arabic all around the world” Dr. Noah Forster from University of Chicago said.

“QatarDebate gave me the opportunity not just to spread the debate culture, but also the Arabic language across North America” Mr.  Lhousseine Guerwane from Western Kentucky University said.

The participants in the “US Debate Capacity Building Program” expressed their happiness in participating in the workshop, which acquainted them with a great deal of information and extensive experience, underscoring its excellence, demanding its continuation in the long term.
