Doha – QatarDebate

 

QatarDebate Center (QD) a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), recently organized the 1st Qatar Universities Debate League (QUDL) in English for season 2019-2020, twenty-four teams took part from nine universities, including QF partner universities, Academic Bridge Program, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Georgetown University, Hamad bin Khalifa University, Northwestern University Qatar, Texas A&M University Qatar, and Weill Cornell Medicine, as well as Qatar University, and College of North Atlantic Qatar.

 

The first QUDL, which is in the British parliamentary format, was hosted by Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar, with a total number fifty-two debaters and had them argue for and against motions in the most challenging dilemmas of the modern world. 

 

Participating students stated that the training and opportunities provided by QatarDebate help the develop key skills, including public speaking, confidence, and negotiation techniques.

It is worthwhile to mention that this is a league system; the debate points earned by the top two teams from the University at tournaments are accumulated, thus here are the university rankings for this weekend, Georgetown University Qatar came in the first place, followed by Northwestern University in Qatar, then Weill Cornell Medicine in Qatar.
