Qatar University & Princess Sumaya University for Technology meet in the grand final

The 5th International Universities Debating Championship, organized by Qatar Debate Center (QD) continued on day four, under the patronage of Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF); featuring 100 universities from 51 Arab and foreign countries.  The program on the fourth day of the championship witnessed the semi-final round with the top 4 teams battling their way to the grand final and eventually the pre-final round.   Participants from the top-4 qualifying teams that included Princess Sumaya University for Technology – Jordan, University of Amar Telidji – Algeria, Qatar University Boys and the Harvard University – the United States agreed that all debate rounds were very competitive, and they were aiming to win each round with logic, reasoning and persuasion for the very thought-provoking debate motions.  The highly intense competition featured 107 teams from universities across the world.  The championship witnessed participants passionately presenting arguments in favor of and against several topics such as sports, human rights, politics, and economics. The participants expressed delight that the International Universities Debating Championship provided the youth of today with a platform to debate and think about pertinent issues that are defining today’s world.

Press Conference

A press conference was held at the Media Center with the two teams that qualified for the grand final debate. Debaters from Qatar University Boys and Princess Sumaya University for Technology – Jordan agreed that the art of debate is an essential aspect of our delay lives while thanking and appreciating QatarDebate for organizing the championship, and its endless support to teach Arabic to non-Arabic speakers.

By the end of the press conference the moderator, Dr Al-Moatasem Al-Mamari from Oman congratulated, all the finalists and hoped that they would all play a vital part in the future success of their countries.

He further continued, “The 5th IUDC gives students across the world a platform to participate in debates, interact with other students from different universities while honing their skills to research, analyze and speak persuasively”.
