QatarDebate invites teachers to take part in a two-day workshop that aims to facilitate the use of debate as an educational tool across the curriculum.

Who can attend this training?
  • Teachers of any school subject who have no previous debate experience.
  • This course is NOT for teachers who are already involved with QatarDebate programs as coaches, judges etc.

Workshop Outline

‘Debate in the Classroom’ is an interactive teacher training workshop that aims to enthuse teachers with new ideas, tools and techniques on how to use debate as an effective learning tool across the high school curriculum. This workshop will be exploring the below critical learning questions:
  • Why is debate an important and effective teaching tool inside the classroom?
  • How the different components of debate (e.g. public speaking, critical thinking, argumentation, etc.) can be used to promote and reinforce learning in the classroom across the curriculum?
  • What are some practical tips, debate exercises, and resources for using debate in the classroom?
  • How to collaborate in implementing Debate in the Classroom thereby overcoming obstacles and improving the overall educational experience for everyone.
Below is an outline of the sessions:
  • Session 1: Monday, November 20 - Understanding Debate as an Education Tool for the Classroom
  • Session 2: Wednesday, November 22 - Practicing Debate Drills and Techniques
*From 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm
